The Vernon Seniors Softball League will be registering new players who have attained the age of 55 or over or will become 55 during this calendar year. There are no Town of Vernon residency requirements. Registration closes April 1, 2025. New players may register in person, by mail, or electronically.  Late registrations may be allowed if additional players are needed.

The Vernon Seniors Softball League was organized in 1993 with 39 players. Over 26 Connecticut towns are represented by players in the league. During the 2024 playing season 125 men and women, ages 55 to 85, played on 8 teams. For 2025, we anticipate each team playing two games per week and approximately 28 games during the season weather permitting plus playoffs. The league is a non-profit organization, managed by a nine member Board of Directors. The League is operated in conjunction with Vernon Parks and Recreation.

For 2025, Vernon Seniors Softball will be offering two leagues. The first is our traditional Afternoon League with games starting a 3:15 pm and 4:45 pm at Community Field and Henry Park. We anticipate eight teams, two scheduled games per week, games played Monday through Thursday starting the week or April 21 (weather permitting). It is possible makeup games could be on Fridays. Players who are still employed may request to play only on one of the teams that only play late games.

The second league is our new Morning League where we anticipate playing doubleheaders on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 am (rain date Wednesdays) at Community Field and Henry Park. We anticipate the morning league being twelve weeks, divided into two 6-week sessions beginning the first week of May and ending in late July (a total of 24 games weather permitting).

The league follows the senior softball rules (seniorsoftball.com) with a few additional safety related rules found on our web site (vernonseniorsoftball.com). The league also sponsors higher competition Travel Teams that play regular senior softball rules. These teams usually play on Saturdays with at least one tournament at Cape Cod.

The 2025 new player fee is $100.00 for the Afternoon League (the $75 registration fee plus $25 for the league shirt) and $50 for the Morning League.  We offer a $10 discount to players who sign up for both leagues by the registration deadline. If we are unable to place you on a team your fees will be refunded.  The fee covers your team jersey (afternoon league), league insurance, bats, balls, field rentals, and miscellaneous equipment and supplies.
